Notes from THE HAVEN
Wednesday, March 03, 2004
It is 22:27. I am sitting at my desk, contemplating whether to move to the living room which was populated by eleven people just moments ago. A grown man is crying by his window. I think I will move after all.
I hate to hear grown men cry. Men wait for the most private moments to express themselves freely. Listening to someone in that moment is almost an invasion of their privacy. The pain that drives a man to weep goes deep, no one should be subject to that type of hurt. But we are.
Now propped on my bed, I am trying to ignore the mess I have made in my room. I am not as clean as I used to be. Too many things to do, too many toys. Books that need reading. Pictures that need taking.
My week has been packed since I wrote my Lemon entry. God gave us the fourth commandment so that we can make sure we rest at least one day a week. Our bodies are designed this way. So it was large conviction for me when I came to the conclusion that I do too much. More so, I find myself with too much to do. Now learning to make sure I do less so that I can give those few things all my attention rather than scattered efforts in different areas.
The weekend has been good. Jason’s 24/7 team came over and in short notice, Tom was able to get about 100 youth into the YMCA in TST. Helping with set-up was avery educational experience. I also found myself taking a few pictures with my new f1.8 lens. The outreach was very powerful, which has only motivated me to encourage our drama team to come up with our own and spend less time with YWAM dramas. Having participated in the Three Trees over Christmas, there is no reason why we couldn’t. We spent the evening with the team and got to know some of them quite well playing pool and a painful game of billiards at Silvercord. I got home at 4:30am. Up again and at Revolve at 11:00 was a bit painful and I was off que all morning. The post-dance BigMac meal accompanied by 4 hot wings did not help my effort to wake up. Home, read, 180, Bob spoke on saving money. It was awesome because although it was a subject I didn’t really need to worry about as I always have money left over, I haven’t consciously set a target to save and that really motivated me to keep a tap on my money. Dinner at Stanley Fast Food on Stanley Street was awesome, some of our more delicate members of 180 were repelled by the local grottiness of the place. Amen to grotty dining!! Nate, Amy, James and myself ended up watching Runaway Jury at the Haven and I was very much entertained. The fact that it had Rachael Weiss had everything to do with it.
Sunday, still hurting from the lack of sleep the pool-playing, found me in a strange trance at church. Trying to grasp all 19 points of the sermon, I wrote 2 down. The Vine is trying to promote a heart of prayer and fasting and this will be the month we will go it. Renee also had her birthday. She will have to wait till she’s 20 to get another leap year. Love ya Renzie!!
We rushed off to Zambra for the mission meeting. Though the mission will have its challenges, we can see the team beginning to gel and get more comfortable with one another. I am very excited. Rocking over to The Point after the meeting, we had our Redeemer drama rehearsal. I know it is easier for everyone to play the same parts they have played especially if there are others there who have no clue, but I am concerned because we did redeemer in September when we went to Cebu, its gonna be old news for them. Anyhow, I am sure God is gonna bring us to new places and seeing the old faces will be more important that whatever drama we end up doing.
After rehearsal we walked, WALKED to the office.. man.. I will leave it at that. Trying to get the 24/7 team to see Uncle Joe and Whence He Came was tough and I ended up having to miss the show to join them for shopping and din din at Mong Kok and TST for Bananna Leaf. We then rocked onto Miramar Red Box for Karaoke, got a massive room, Josh, Eph, Ann and Jon joined us after their gig and we sang till 3. Hanging with the 24/7 team was such a wonderful experience. I am honoured to be part of that. There was much to learn about servant hearts.
There is a conclusion to the week but I have little time to finish it. In stead I will leave you with a song from Enter the Worship Circle – Second Circle.
Ben and Robin Pasley
WITH MY TINY HANDS, WITH MY TINY FINGERS
I WILL REACH OUT HARD TO YOU
IN THIS TINY ROOM, WITH THESE TINY PEOPLE
I WILL TELL THE TRUTH TO YOU
YOU ARE FAITHFUL, YOU ARE STRONG
YOU ARE GOODNESS, I AM WRONG
YOU ARE LARGER, MORE THAN ANYTHING
YOU’RE EVERYTHING TO ME
WITH MY TINY WORDS, IN THIS TINY SONG
I WILL SING MY HEART TO YOU
ON MY TINY KNEES, WITH MY TINY DREAMS
I WILL GIVE MY LIFE TO YOU
